the original lampshades were a dark olive green and needed to be painted to match the new decor. i began by painting an off white base, antique white (half strength) then an abstract design using a screen printing technique. the next step was to paint a detailed design in charcoal. when that was dry, i followed with a wash of diluted white and finally, using a toothbrush, flicked paint over the surface in some areas to create a stipple effect. they now fit perfectly with the new decor without the need to buy new lampshades... with the bonus of having something hand painted and unique.
